The end of the war against Japan brought a feeling of intense relief for Mildura veteran, Gilbert Powell. Gilbert was a machine gunner in 7th Battalion's E Company and rose to the rank of Sergeant during his military service. Gilbert was interviewed by a Sunraysia Daily (Mildura) journalist just before the 50th anniversary of Victory in the Pacific, 15 August 1945. The interview has been reproduced here.
